Welcome to DreamLyrics Message Gaming™

A friendly, online message gaming club

DreamLyrics was established in 2000 as a not-for-profit organisation and social activities club for role-playing gamers. The club allows members to play these games as PBP using our customised Internet forum. Our message games have expanded to include many other tabletop games, such as card and board games, word games and quizzes.

At the heart of DreamLyrics is UBB.threads PHP forum software, where most of the message games are run as PBP games. Any member can request a forum to be created in which to run their game. They become the games master and full moderator of that forum. Members can also browse for message games that are recruiting and apply, joining the game as a player if accepted by the games master. At DreamLyrics games masters can set their own application criteria.

Take a look

As you can see, the forum categories are all self-explanatory, with all the community forums located in Front of House. Our members are always happy to see new faces, as every new member enriches our online message gaming community. So why not join DreamLyrics Message Gaming, it only costs 25 GBP for a life-time membership, payable through RBS WorldPay.

DreamLyrics is proudest of its PBP (Play By Post) games, many of which run for years with games masters and players posting several times a week. No wonder DreamLyrics members so often count each other as friends! It's common for members to meet up face-to-face for gaming and chat around the table, some have even made the transatlantic crossing to meet up.

Friendship is as important a part of the DreamLyrics community as the message games. But what of the games? What can you expect from the message games?

Generally speaking, all our message games are based out of a forum, even PBEM (Play By Email) and live chat games. Forums are grouped into categories.

Fun & Games

This is where card and board games, word games, sports and trivia quizzes are run. Chess, Yahtzee, sniglets, fictionary, etc.

Fantasy role-playing games, an old favourite and still the most popular genre of role-playing game. Examples: Dungeons & Dragons, Exalted, HackMaster, Legend of the Five Rings, RuneQuest, Warhammer Fantasy, 7th Sea. Many licensed fantasy RPGs have been published, such as Conan, The Lord of the Rings, World of Warcraft, etc.

Alternate Reality

Cyberpunk, steampunk, post-apocalypse, super heroes, all subgenres of fantasy and science-fiction that are based on an alternate version of our reality. Examples: Ars Magica, Amber Diceless, Conspiracy X, Deadlands, Feng Shui, Hollow Earth Expedition, Marvel Super Heroes, Nobilis, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness, etc.

Although spaceships and aliens are classic tropes of the sci-fi genre, science-fiction is also well known for handling complex philosophical and social issues. Examples: Famous film/TV licences, such as Serenity, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, and Star Wars, and other published sci-fi RPGs, Traveller, Judge Dredd, Fading Suns, Paranoia, Rifts, Warhammer 40K, etc.

Once occupying a small niche, horror role-playing games have grown to become the second most popular genre. Similar to alternate reality subgenres, horror always uses the fantasy and science-fiction elements to unsettle and scare the players. Examples: World of Darkness games feature predominantly, editions of Hunter, Mage, Vampire, and Werewolf. But other extremely popular horror RPGs have been published, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Call of Cthuhlu, In Nomine, Kult, Ravenloft, etc.

The vast majority of fiction, in literature, film and TV, falls into this broad genre, where crime, political and techno-thrillers might be found alongside war and period dramas, modern or historical. Even the soap opera its place. Examples: These games will often use a generic system or run systemless.

Adults Only

All of our unrestricted access forums could be considered suitable for under-eighteens. Sex, violence, drug and offensive language must be justified by context, and sexual swear words are censored to prevent them "leaping from the page" at an inopportune moment. This is for the convenience of our members who might be posting from home or work. Adults only is restricted access, members must request access (and usually do), and here games of any genre can be run completely uninhibited.
